There are two types of applicants for the 2021 New Zealand Music Competition: Young Artists and Rising Stars.

Young Artists

The 2021 New Zealand Music Competition Young Artists category is a concerto competition, open to all piano students in two age groups. Each group will have one compulsory concerto movement, as competition repertoire. 

Rising Stars

The New Zealand Music Competition's Rising Star category is open to beginner and intermediate piano students in four age groups. Rising Stars are students who have recently embarked on their music studies
