The Bach Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin

Few musical works have fascinated and challenged violinists more than Bach’s Six Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin. Discover why for more than 300 years these works have been regarded by violinists worldwide as among the most important ever written for the instrument.

 

This workshop is a must for young violinists who are just beginning their journey with Bach, as well as for more experienced players who want to deepen their lifelong relationship with these extraordinary expressions of humanity. The workshop is designed for young violinists aged 10 and up, but younger violinists are also welcome to attend.

 

Eligibility: age 10 years and up.

Fee: $50

  • One parent/adult can accompanying the participant free of charge

  • Time: Saturday 30th January, 11-12pm

  • Location: The Piano (The Chamber) 

 

Application deadline: Friday 11th December

Violin Ensemble Workshop

This is a fun group performance activity designed for young violinists aged 7yrs and up who love to perform!

 

Our competition adjudicators, violinists Donald Armstrong and Jessica Oddie are on the lookout for young, enthusiastic violinists to play with them on stage at the Gala Concert. Simply sign up, let us know how long you have been learning and the level you are playing at, and we will send you parts of ensemble pieces to prepare for the workshop after the application closes in December.

 

At the workshop, participants will be given tips on good stage etiquette and how to play with others in an ensemble.

 

Eligibility: age 7 years and up.

Fee: $50

  • One parent/adult can accompanying the participant free of charge

  • Time: Friday 29th January, 6:30-8pm.

  • Location: The Piano (The Chamber)

 

Gala concert

  • Rehearsal time: Saturday 3oth January, afternoon (time TBC)

  • Concert time: Sunday 31st January, 2:30pm

  • Location: The Piano

 

Application deadline: Friday 11th December

  • The assigned pieces will be sent out after the application closes in December.

Masterclass and Private Lessons

During the competition week, there will be private lesson opportunities with Dr. Jian Liu, Donald Armstrong and Jessica Oddie. We will announce the details later in December.
